I’ve recently started going to the gym, and I have to say—it’s been an amazing experience. But beyond the physical transformation, something unexpected caught my attention: the serious faces.
Each morning, I walk into the gym at 6 a.m., feeling energized, smiling, sometimes even wanting to dance to my favorite song blasting through my headphones. But then I look around—everyone is so serious! It’s like they’re at war with the weights. No smiles, no nods of acknowledgment. Just intense, focused, almost severe expressions.
Why So Serious?
I get it—we’re here to get results. We want the muscle definition, the toned body, the sense of achievement. But why does it have to feel like a life-or-death mission?
Especially for those of us who show up at 6 a.m., we are the dedicated ones. We wake up before sunrise, commit to bettering ourselves, and push through exhaustion. And no one is forcing us. We do it for ourselves, for our health, for our personal growth. That alone is worth smiling about!
One of my favorite moments at the gym is when I see an entire section of the heavyweight area filled with women—before any of the men show up. It’s a quiet yet powerful moment that reminds me of why we’re here. We’re showing up, pushing through, and proving to ourselves that we are capable. And honestly, that’s something to celebrate!
The Best Pre-Workout? Your Humor!
There’s so much talk about pre-workout supplements—protein shakes, energy bars, amino acids, caffeine boosters. But you know what’s the best pre-workout, in-workout, and post-workout fuel? Your humor.
Yes, humor! We obsess over getting the right macros, tracking our protein intake, and following strict workout regimens. But what about joy? What about bringing a light-hearted attitude to the process?
The Power of a Smile
Think about what you go through daily—stress, breakups, financial struggles, family issues, hormonal changes, and just life’s unpredictability. Yet, despite it all, you wake up, show up at the gym, and put in the work. That’s a victory! That’s something to smile about!
Smiling is scientifically proven to boost your mood. It releases endorphins, your brain’s natural happiness chemicals. It relaxes your body and can even make your workout feel easier. Imagine what a difference that could make in your training.
Abundance is in the Routine
Many people fear routine, believing it makes life boring. But if you look at nature, abundance is repetition. A tree is abundant because of its countless leaves—all identical yet beautiful together. A million dollars is just one dollar repeated a million times.
Likewise, fitness is built on repetition—lifting weights repeatedly, running every day, staying consistent. And if we’re going to do something over and over again, why not make it enjoyable?
A Simple Challenge: Smile More
Try this next time you’re at the gym:
Before starting your workout, smile at yourself in the mirror.
Smile at someone else. A simple nod or greeting can shift the energy in the room.
Laugh at yourself. If you trip, drop a weight, or mess up a set—own it and laugh it off.
Enjoy the music. If your song makes you want to dance, move a little. It’s your workout; make it fun!
Your workout isn’t just about sculpting your body—it’s about shaping your energy, your mindset, and your spirit. And when you bring humor into the mix, everything feels lighter, easier, and much more enjoyable.
Final Thoughts: Honor Yourself with Joy
You are already doing something incredible. You’re showing up, putting in the effort, and working towards a better version of yourself. That alone is worth celebrating.
So don’t just bring your water bottle or protein shake—bring your humor to the gym. Smile, laugh, enjoy the process. Because the best workout booster isn’t found in a supplement bottle—it’s in your mindset.
Next time you hit the gym, try smiling more and see how it changes your experience. Trust me—it’s a game-changer!
